Welcome to Acacia-Tesuque Neighborhood Watch (ATNW)


ATNW is a group of homes located around the intersection of Acacia NW and Tesuque NW Streets in Taylor Ranch, an area of Albuquerque's West Side.  Supported by the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) Crime Prevention Unit, we work together to keep an eye on our neighborhood and neighbors.  ATNW provides several resources for our neighborhood:
  • Coordinate with APD for your neighborhood watch
  • Voluntary email notices to share information about suspicious and criminal activity in our neighborhood.
  • Neighbor-only web area to share information

Neighborhood Watch Tips

  • What should you do in a neighborhood watch?
    • Be aware of what is going on in your neighborhood
    • If something is unusual, pay attention and do something.  Report suspicious vehicles and people.  Call the police 242-COPS.
    • Sign up and share what you know on our email list (members only)
    • Is a car oddly parked or someone sitting in it for a long time?
    • Are objects being removed from a house unexpectedly?
    • Don't try to stop a criminal yourself!
  • Details to report about vehicles
    • Vehicle license - as many digits/letters as you can
    • Vehicle make, model, color, number of doors, window tint, age
    • Direction of travel
  • Details to report about people
    • Sex, race, age, height, weight, hair color/length, facial hair
    • Type of clothes, shoes, jewelry
    • Mannerisms, eye color, scars or distinguishing marks

Home Security Tips

  • Simple things you can do to increase your home security:
    • Doors and windows should be closed and locked
    • Block windows and sliding door tracks with dowels
    • Lock your unattended vehicles at all times, no valuables showing
    • Use outside lights and motion detector lights
    • Keep outside lights on at night
    • Cut back shrubs and trees where criminals can hide
    • Don't let anyone in your house you don't know.  Install wide-angle peep holes in your doors.
    • Be careful opening the door to strangers.
    • Do you keep a garage door opener in your car?  If someone gets the opener, can they get into your house?  Lock the door from the garage into your house.
  • What to do when you're away from the house for a short time
    • Keep radio or TV on to talk channels
    • Utilize timers to turn lights on and off
    • Close drapes and window blinds
  • What to do when you're away from the house for a long time
    • Notify trusted neighbors to watch house, get mail, trash cans, newspaper
    • Consider stopping mail, newspaper, etc.
    • Set random light timers to turn lights on and off
